The GB List of Active Substances provides details of biocidal active substances in Great Britain (GB), such as:
- name
- CAS number (Chemical Abstracts Service)
- EC number
- if it is included on the GB Simplified Active Substance List (which exists as a subset of the GB List of Active Substances) and the corresponding category:
- category A – equivalent to categories 1-5 of Annex I of the EU Biocidal Products Regulation (EU BPR) – includes substances such as food additives, weak acids and pheromones
- category B – equivalent to category 6 of Annex I of EU BPR – includes substances for which an active substance dossier has been validated in accordance with Article 7 (3) of GB BPR
- category C – equivalent to category 7 of Annex I of EU BPR – includes substances other than those in categories A and B
- product type
- approval start date
- approval expiry date
- approval / assessment status:
- approved – the active substance is approved for use in biocidal products of the listed product types under GB BPR (including active substances on the GB Simplified Active Substance List)
- approved – under renewal – the active substance is approved for use in biocidal products of the listed product types and is currently undergoing assessment for renewal of the approval under GB BPR
- approved – early review initiated – the active substance is approved for use in biocidal products of the listed product types but an early review of the approval has been initiated due to concerns that the conditions for approval are no longer met and / or concerns relating to its use in biocidal products and treated articles (following the review, the approval may be amended or cancelled)
- not approved – the active substance is not approved for use in biocidal products of the listed product types in GB following a non-approval decision (phase out periods may apply)
- expired – the active substance approval has expired for the listed product types and no application for renewal has been submitted (this active substance cannot be used in biocidal products in GB)
- under review – the active substance is currently under review for the listed product types by HSE as part of the GB Review Programme and may be able to be used in biocidal products in GB before its approval date
- under assessment – the active substance is currently under assessment for the listed product types by HSE under GB BPR but not as part of the GB Review Programme (this active substance may be able to be used in biocidal products in GB before its approval date depending on the regulatory process)
- application withdrawn – application for a new active substance for the listed product types was withdrawn by the applicant (this active substance cannot be used in biocidal products in GB)
- open invitation – an invitation is open for companies to notify support for the active substance for the listed product types under the GB Review Programme following participant withdrawal or redefinition (this active substance may be able to continue to be used in biocidal products in GB but GB Article 95 does not currently apply)
- notified – the active substance has been successfully notified for support for the listed product types under the GB Review Programme, usually following participant withdrawal or redefinition (this substance may be able to continue to be used in biocidal products in GB but GB Article 95 does not currently apply)
- no longer supported – the active substance is no longer supported in the GB Review Programme for the listed product types, usually following participant withdrawal or redefinition, where no successful notification or dossier was submitted by the relevant deadline (awaiting non-approval decision)
- regulatory process:
- new active substances – the active substance was not on the market on 14 May 2000 as an active substance of a biocidal product for purposes other than scientific or product and process-orientated research and development
- simplified active substances – the active substance does not give rise to concern in accordance with Article 28(2) of GB BPR and is eligible to be included in the GB Simplified Active Substance List
- Review Programme for existing active substances – the active substance was on the market on 14 May 2000 as an active substance of a biocidal product for purposes other than scientific or product and process-orientated research and development and is being / was assessed under the GB Review Programme
- Non-Review Programme existing active substances – the active substance was on the market on 14 May 2000 as an active substance of a biocidal product for purposes other than scientific or product and process-orientated research and development and is being / was assessed outside of the GB Review Programme
- Article 93 active substances – the active substance is supported under the transitional measures of Article 93 of GB BPR
- if it is a candidate for substitution
- restrictions on simplified product authorisation
- where to find the assessment reports and legal acts
The list is searchable by EC number, CAS number or active substance name. All positive searches will highlight in blue and the number of results will display.
