Managing health and safety on river rapids rides

This guidance is aimed at controllers of river rapid rides and amusement park owners and will help them operate river rapid rides safely.

The guidance was prepared in response to a letter to industry stakeholders from one of Her Majesty’s Coroners dated 13 November 2019, following a fatal accident in 2017. It is based on HSE research into a series of incidents on these rides over the years, in the UK and at theme parks around the world, their causes and the lessons learned from them.

The guidance will help ride controllers review and revise their risk assessment for river rapids rides and adjust their control measures where necessary.
