Appeals

Introduction

1. This section deals with appeals in England and Wales. It addresses both prosecution and defence rights of appeal, together with appeals to the European Courts.

2. An appeal is a complaint made to a higher court concerning a decision made by an inferior court. The party complaining is known as the appellant, the other party the respondent.

3. The hierarchy of the Courts in England and Wales is set out on the Court Service website.
