What ionising radiation is

Ionising radiations occurs as either electromagnetic rays (such as X-rays and gamma rays) or particles (such as alpha and beta particles). It occurs naturally (eg radon gas) but can also be produced artificially.

Revision of the Basic Safety Standards for Radiological Protection Directive (BSS)

The European Commission (EC) has brought forward a formal proposal for a new Basic Safety Standards Directive that brings together and consolidates five existing EURATOM Directives. This is currently under negotiation.
