Informal discussion with relevant specialist
The discussion should include:
- the nature of the requirement, eg joint inspection, incident investigation, enforcement issue, complaint follow up, etc
- the form of the required response, eg a report (whether a memo, letter or formal report), review of papers, statement, schedule to notice, etc
- the priority of the work and the timescales
- which standards or Essential Health & Safety Requirements (EHSR) may not have been complied with for product safety
In most circumstances the specialist contacted will also be the individual who undertakes the work.
However in some circumstances, depending on resources, it may be appropriate for the work to be assigned to another specialist.
If there are insufficient resources locally, the specialist group/team leader will refer the request to the Head of Specialist Group or Head of Pool
Discuss all reactive requests for occupational health/medical support with the Band 2 Occupational Health Inspector (OHI) who will involve the relevant medical inspector as appropriate.
In the absence of an appropriate person, contact the Head of Specialist Group or Head of Pool.
