RR388 - The Public Provision of Health and Safety Information by UK Top Companies and Major Public Bodies for 2004/2005

This is the third in a series of studies to investigate the level and quality of health and safety information made publicly available by the UK's top companies, Government Departments and Agencies, NHS Trusts and Local Authorities.

Specific objectives of the study were:

  • To determine the 2004 level of reporting of health and safety issues in the annual reports, websites and other publicly available documents of the UK's top companies, Government Departments and Agencies, NHS Trusts and Local Authorities
  • To identify the issues reported in terms of health and safety principles, performance and targets
  • To determine the quality of the health and safety principles, performance and targets information presented and identify reporting exemplars
  • To compare the 2004 level and quality of reporting with that in 2002 and 2000 (based on our previous research findings) and 1995 (based on research conducted by Disaster Action).

This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Its contents, including any opinions and/or conclusions expressed, are those of the author alone and do not necessarily reflect HSE policy.
