RR272 - Load security investigation

The Dynamics and Refinement Department at MIRA has undertaken a series of tests for Tarmac to assess the stability of a variety of payloads on an articulated vehicle during cornering and braking.

All tests were carried out on the MIRA Proving Ground. For the cornering tests, measurements were made of lateral acceleration, semi-trailer roll angle and vehicle speed. For the braking tests, measurements were made of longitudinal acceleration levels and vehicle speed. Payload behaviour during all tests was recorded using a video camera mounted to the semi-trailer.

A total of eleven different payloads were tested. These payloads covered a wide cross section of Tarmac Concrete Products' range and a number of different restraint techniques currently in common use.
