RR212 - Practical solutions to noise problems in agriculture
Trends in farming and a literature review are studied for data on noise exposure on farms. Noise control techniques and legislation are reviewed in relation to recent developments and their applicability to on-farm conditions. The control of noise sources that expose operators to daily personal noise exposures (LEP, d) of 89 - 104 dB(A) is discussed and seven examples are selected. Seven case studies are undertaken to determine if cost effective solutions can be implemented utilising on-farm labour and low cost materials. They demonstrate that a useful reduction in the daily noise exposure values can be achieved, in the range 3 - 16 dB(A), although additional personal hearing protection may still be required.
