RR188 - Survey of compliance with Employers ' Liability Compulsory Insurance (ELCI) Act 1969

This two-part study aimed to gain further evidence of the level of compliance with employers' liability compulsory insurance (ELCI). A postal survey conducted in this study during the summer of 2003 with 2437 respondents from micro, small, medium and very large firms across all sectors found that only 0.9 per cent of micro- firms and 0.37 per cent of small firms and 0.6 per cent of large sized firms lacked ELCI. This postal survey also found similar levels of difficulty in securing ELCI and concerns about the cost as previous studies. Concludes that there is no significant evidence of a compliance problem despite difficulties in getting ELCI and the cost issue.
