RR115 - Erosion in elbows in hydrocarbon production systems: Review document

Gives an overview of erosion mechanisms in elbows in hydrocarbon production systems and was prepared as part of an investigation into a specific incident in which an elbow failed on an offshore gas production facility. Provides an overview of the subject and guidance that will help engineers to make more informed judgements on management of erosion in the particular hydrocarbon production system they operate. Gives an overview of different erosion mechanisms and the factors that influence them, and as sand erosion is the primary cause of problems in oil and gas production facilities, and then looks at particulate erosion in more detail, particularly focusing on elbows. Includes a section on methods used to minimise, control and predict erosion in production systems. Reports a number of conclusions.
