RR111 - Report on trends in shuttle tanker incidents 1998 - 2001

Reviews the status of tanker offtake on the UKCS as of 1997/8 from a report produced at this time and uses this approach to analyse data from 1998 to 2001. Provides an overview of the data collected, a calculation of the hours of exposure and the frequencies of incident types. The report concludes that there has been a 59% reduction in the expected frequency of collision between a shuttle tanker and a floating production, storage and off-loading (FPSO) and a floating storage unit (FSU. Nevertheless there is clearly underreporting and blurring of the lines between normal operational procedures and emergency procedures on some vessels with respect to emergency disconnection.
