HSE is the enforcing authority for workers in England, Scotland and Wales.
In England, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the enforcing authority for patient and service user health and safety where providers are registered with them. In Scotland and Wales, in line with HSE’s policy and procedures for regulating health and social care, HSE has responsibility for some patient and service user health and safety.
Managing stress in health and social care
Work related stress is a major cause of sickness absence in health and social care leading to an estimated 2.9m working days lost per year. For advice on how to manage stress in the workplace please refer to HSE’s Stress Management Standards.
