In parallel with the replacement programme, HSE and Local Authorities are carrying out an inspection campaign. This is primarily focused on those premises that have been identified as being at higher risk or that have not responded to requests to complete the survey questionnaire. However, a proportion of visits will also be carried out to premises identified as being at lower risk, in order to test and monitor the accuracy of the risk-ranking information. Irrespective of the notional risk-ranking derived from survey information, Inspectors will ensure that duty holders comply with their legal obligations, including where relevant, established safety standards. Where such standards are not being met, formal enforcement action may be taken to ensure workers and the public are properly protected.
