Workplace Exposure Limits: Containing the list of workplace exposure limits for use with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (as amended)
Reflects the new approach for the setting of, and compliance with, occupational exposure limits (OELs). Previously OELs were set as both maximum exposure limits (MELs) and occupational exposure standards (OESs). These have been replaced by a single measure: the workplace exposure limit (WEL). The change resulted from concerns expressed by the Health and Safety Commission’s Advisory Committee on Toxic Substances (ACTS) about how well OELs were understood.
Research conducted for HSE justified the query and consequently this new control was devised. Containing tabular presentations of WEL lists and biological monitoring guidance values. Specific issues of setting and applying exposure limits are also documented alongside matters such as calculation methods, exposure monitoring and mixed exposures.
