Health and safety in health and social care services

Leading causes of employee sickness absence:

The NHS employs approximately 1.7 million people across about 400 organisations and when included with the wider social care sector, this figure rises to 2.6 million workers.

It has been estimated that sickness absence costs the NHS alone, £1 billion a year and this causes inevitable implications for the effective delivery of health and social care services.

Shattered Lives campaign

'Shattered Lives 2009 campaign is targeting the Health Sector - 54% of major injuries in healthcare come from slips or trips and in 2007/8 cost society £72.4 million, many of these injuries result in broken bones!
