HSE is the regulatory authority in the UK for pesticide products. Pesticides can be split into two categories, those used in agriculture, horticultural and home garden and those used for public hygiene.
Agricultural, horticultural and home garden pesticides are regulated under the Plant Protection Products Directive/Regulations and the Control of Pesticides Regulations.
Agricultural, horticultural and home garden pesticide products are those that are used to protect plants e.g. insecticides, fungicides, herbicides (weedkillers), molluscicides (slug killers), plant growth regulators and bird and animal repellents.
Public hygiene pesticides and biocides are regulated under the Biocidal Products Directive/Regulations and the Control of Pesticides Regulations.
Public hygiene pesticides and biocides products are those that are used to control unwanted pests (excludes plant protection products) e.g. wood preservatives, insecticides, algaecides and repellents.
