HSE's Energy Division (ED) is responsible for the offshore oil and gas industry. Our mission is to protect people's health and safety by ensuring risks in the changing workplace are properly controlled. Our current priorities are:
Onshore and offshore health & safety jobs, a rewarding career in a positive, flexible environment.
The North Sea Offshore Authorities Forum (NSOAF), of which HSE is a member, has recently completed a multi-national audit looking at how offshore operators and drilling contractors in the North Sea addressed human and organisational factors in their well control arrangements. The audit report identifies good practices and lessons learned, and these can be adopted by the industry as part of continuous improvement.
Following the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico in April 2010, the European Commission (EC) expressed its initial views on the safety of offshore oil and gas operations in its communication ‘Facing the challenge of the safety of offshore oil and gas activities’ (published on 13 October 2010).
