This Approved Code of Practice gives practical advice on the requirements placed on employers and self-employed people by the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 to provide adequate first aid provisions to all mine workers.

In describing standard first-aid provisions, it also examines the safety ratio of 25:1 concerning the number of mine employees to first-aiders. It lists distinct provisions for mines operating with more than 25 workers at one time and measures for when 24 or less are simultaneously active.

It also covers wider measures relating to mines, from the basic need for potable water to ensuring sufficient quantities of sterile eye-irrigative fluid.
