This OC explains the relevance of BS 6109: 1981 Code of practice for tail lifts, to column and cantilever lifts. The purpose of this OC is to assist inspectors with interpretation of the BS. Inspectors are advised to refer to the BS when attempting to implement the advice in this OC. A harmonised European standard is in preparation which will address the problems of other types of tail lift.
