UK Construction Week

HSE is exhibiting and speaking at UK Construction Week.
Engineered stone is a popular choice across construction projects, particularly for kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Working with the material can generate high levels of respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust, causing serious, life limiting lung disease including silicosis, COPD and lung cancer — conditions that are preventable with the right controls.
On Wednesday 30 September, on the Building Safety & Occupational Safety Stage, HSE’s Dave Towler, HM Principal Specialist Inspector of Occupational Hygiene, will explain why HSE is currently conducting a nationwide inspection programme of more than 1,000 visits across fabricators of engineered stone to check that employers have implemented the correct controls to keep their workers safe. He will also explain what controls HSE is looking for during an inspection.

Vibration Risk Management: Getting your priorities right
This session will help employers and consultants develop proportionate, prevention-led control strategies and avoid common pitfalls when dealing with hand arm vibration (HAVS) in the workplace and will enable equipment suppliers to position their products appropriately within the regulatory framework.
