Who we are
HSE is responsible for enforcing a wide range of health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
In doing so it also has the general responsibility for encouraging the effective management and control of electrical risks at work. This responsibility is distributed in the following way:
The Offshore Division of the Hazardous Installations Directorate looks after electrical safety offshore.
The Chemical Industries Division of the Hazardous Installations Directorate looks after electrical safety in the on-shore major chemical industries.
The Nuclear Directorate looks after electrical safety on licensed nuclear sites.
Field Operations Directorate
Electrical and Control Systems Corporate Topic Group looks after the generic issues in the field of electrical engineering that can affect safety in the generation, application and use of electricity,
Safety Policy Division looks after general policy issues in electrical safety.
