HSE Chair's business-related travel and work-related hospitality expenses

Date released: 27/05/09

HSE staff are entitled to claim expenses when travelling for business purposes. We are therefore making available details about the HSE Chair's business-related travel, accommodation, subsistence and work-related hospitality expenses for the years 2007/08 and 2008/09. See Annex A and Annex B. It also follows the Freedom of Information request below.

HSE intends to publish this information regularly on this website.

The Chair's pay and allowances already appear on page 43 of HSE's published Annual Report and Accounts.

Freedom of Information request

Thank you for your request for information about:

  1. The expenses of the Chief Executive (or the head of the agency if known by another title) for each of the last two years, broken down into: travel, accommodation, subsistence, entertainment and other (specified) expenses.
  2. Where the Chief Executive holds a credit card linked to the force, I would like to request copies of the statements for the last two years.
  3. Where the Chief Executive has entertained, I would request the names and job titles of those people he has entertained.

Your request was received on 29 April 2009 and as our e-mail acknowledging it confirmed, I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act).

The head of HSE is its Chair. The information provided in this response covers the two occupants of that position for the period you specify. Annex A provides the information on travel, accommodation, subsistence and entertainment for Judith Hackitt - the current Chair who took up post on 1 October 2007; and Annex B is the equivalent information for Sir Bill Callaghan - who ceased to be Chair on 30 September 2007 (see the footnotes in the annexes regarding the merger of the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and HSE).

Neither the current, nor the former Chair, held a credit card issued by HSE.
