Shale gas activity in the UK is still in the exploration stage, with companies drilling test wells. There are no commercially active sites in operation yet, although we have a long history of production of oil and gas from ‘conventional’ onshore fields. As very little exploration has taken place, it is not yet possible to estimate the extent of shale gas resource or how much of it may be practically and commercially recoverable.
