Opportunities to learn and develop

Your learning and career development are really important to us at HSE.

We want to support you to grow, build confidence and develop the skills you need, both in your current role and whatever comes next in your career.

You will have regular conversations with your line manager about your development, and access to HSE’s wide learning offer, which is designed to help you reach your full potential. This includes:

  • coaching and mentoring schemes
  • workshops
  • apprenticeships

You’ll also have access to the wider Civil Service development opportunities, including cross-government programmes and the chance to join a Civil Service profession to help you thrive in your career.

Apprenticeships

We are committed to offering a wide range of apprenticeships across many levels and professions, whether you’re starting out at HSE or looking to build on your existing skills and experience.

We believe everyone should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. Apprenticeships provide a great way to gain hands-on experience in the workplace, develop new skills and achieve a recognised qualification alongside your role.

As part of your apprenticeship, you’ll spend 20% of your time away from day-to-day work to take part in structured training and development. Our apprenticeships offer nationally recognised qualifications, ranging from:

  • Level 2 (equivalent of 2 GCSEs), through to
  • Level 7 (Degree and Masters level)

Many apprenticeships also lead to profession-specific qualifications such as CIMA, CIPFA and CIPD, alongside the apprenticeship qualification itself.
