Managing confined spaces on farms

This information sheet is for farmers, agricultural and livestock workers and anyone else responsible for managing, maintaining or working in confined spaces on farms such as grain silos, slurry pits or silage clamps.

Incidents involving work in confined spaces occur on farms in Great Britain. These incidents include when people, not just farmers, have entered to make a repair, to retrieve something or to deal with a blockage without realising that the space contained a dangerous atmosphere. This information sheet gives guidance on what you can do to prevent these incidents.
