Findings from the event

The workshop sessions discussed the development of productive partnerships in the supply chain and indicated a need for:

• Better emission data.
• More information and training.
• Better understanding of Health and Safety.
• Help in understanding what good health surveillance looks like.
• Building on the consensus that has emerged, all parties will need to begin to address these issues.

Other conclusions which came out of the event were:

The need to communicate clear messages about vibration and ensure that:

• Manufacturers and consultants give the same messages to employers
• Training and education occur throughout organisations - not just of users, but must include the accounts and purchasing departments
• Planned maintenance is key to maintain vibration performance of equipment and the "run it into the ground" mentality needs to be changed

Suggested actions from the event were for:

• All delegates need to continue to build on the consensus that has emerged from the partnership meeting
• HSE to consider providing on the HSE vibration web site an updated power point suitable for training purchasers and users of vibrating equipment

HSE to consider arranging for the HSE website to provide links to the European Power Tool Association (EPTA) and Pneurop websites. Pneurop is the representative body of the European Compressed Air Industry
