An investigation of storm incidents in UK waters.
Documents all notable storm events which have occurred in four offshore areas around the UK over the period October 1986 to June 2000. The UK Meteorological Office European Waters Wave Model archive has been used as a convenient source of data, allowing a rapid selection of events to be made, and a concise and consistent presentation of the details of each selected storm. Summaries of the selected storms have been compiled, to illustrate general characteristics and identify some events which were clearly atypical. The spectral wave data has been used as input to vessel response models, to investigate the range of vessel motions which could reasonably have occurred during these storms. Readily-available records of offshore incidents have also been examined, in order to correlate actual reports with the weather conditions at the time.
Some of these research reports are very large, for information about expected download times please see our FAQs pages.
