CRR 373/2001 Proposed framework for addressing human factors in IEC 61508.
The report covers human factors under International Electrotechnical Commission standard IEC 61508. It reviews existing human factors requirements and considers a range of applications of electrical, electronic and programmable electric (E/E/PE) systems in safety-related applications to draw conclusions concerning the relationship between safety integrity levels and required human factors effort. Introduces a proposed framework with the purpose of relating required human factors activities and assurance processes to types of safety-related applications. This framework covers incorporation of human tasks and errors into the hazard and risk assessment processes and use of the tables to define the human factors requirements for a given safety integrity level. Concludes that human performance depends on systems design attributes and on wider issues relating to staff capabilities and the working environment.
