September to December 2005 - Noise and vibration roadshows
HSE successfully collaborated with the EEF on a series of roadshows covering the new Control of Noise at Work Regulations and Control of Vibration at Work Regulations.
We planned 13 roadshows in cities around the UK, but they proved so popular that this increased to 16, reaching some 1,200 people. The roadshows featured speakers from HSE, Advisers from EEF and consultants from the Industrial Noise and Vibration Centre Ltd who gave presentations on the regulations and how to manage the risks from noise and vibration in the workplace. This included simple and cost-effective ways to control the risks to employees. The programme also included two sessions from Dramanon, a theatre group who specialise in using drama, to help get messages across.
The initial feedback from delegates is very encouraging:
- 98% the delegates indicated they would take action and try to apply the advice about controlling noise.
- 86% indicated they would take action and try to apply the advice about controlling Hand Arm Vibration
- 91% indicated they would take action and try to apply the advice about health surveillance.
