Dr Andy Berry works as an independent health, safety and scientific consultant, having previously been the Director of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment at Cardiff University. He is a firm believer in the proportionate and sensible application of safety regulations - enabling not stifling. A lead auditor, Andy was project lead for the successful introduction of safety and environmental management systems across a Russell Group University.
A chartered Fellow of IOSH, Andy has a broad knowledge of safety & occupational health, having been active in construction, statutory compliance, scientific and environmental safety.
Andy's academic qualifications (BSc, PhD) are in the field of biology and biochemistry, which first sparked Andy's interest in scientific safety, and led to him undertake the NEBOSH diploma in 2001.
Since then Andy has worked in the private sector, managed accommodation services for students and been the safety manager in a large estates & facilities department, working with capital project managers and maintenance teams within the Higher Education and NHS sectors, before becoming the director of a large OSHE department.
His consultancy role today is equally varied, and includes the charity, cosmetic/clinical and university sectors. Andy is a shore crew member and the lifeboat press officer for his local RNLI station. Andy is a fully trained press and communications officer, with experience of TV, radio, social media and live broadcast. His core skills in this area are in major incident communications, reputation management and business continuity.
