Case 414 - Wildlife Trust refuses permission for a child to accompany their parent on a voluntary wildlife survey on Health and Safety grounds
The Trust does have a duty to take reasonably practicable steps to ensure the safety of its volunteers. The level of risk in the activity, and of parental supervision, would be factors in deciding a proportionate approach. From the information provided here, it would appear that the child would not be at any more risk than on a day out in the park with his parent.
We cannot comment on the child safeguarding issues which appear also to have been weighed in the Trust’s consideration.
