Case 215 - Scout camping facilities

The enquirer sent in a copy of an advert promoting Scout camping facilities. A fully fitted kitchen is available however, campers are informed that they should provide their own cooking equipment and eating utensils for health and safety reasons.

Panel decision

There are no health and safety reasons not to provide catering equipment in this kitchen. We are struggling to identify what the real reason might be - and suspect it might be more to reduce costs. Encouraging scouts to cook in a controlled environment provides a good opportunity for them to learn how to use cooking utensils safely to prepare meals.
