Case 214 - Kettles banned from hotel bedrooms

Issue

Hotel receptionist explained that kettles were not allowed in bedrooms due to health and safety reasons.

Panel decision

There are no health and safety laws that ban the use of kettles in hotel rooms. Many other hoteliers don't get steamed up about providing such a service for their guests. This establishment must have other reasons for no longer wanting to provide this service for their guests. That is their choice, but they should own up to the real reason not hide behind alleged health and safety issues.
