Case 190 - School will not allow Cricket Club to use their own grass roller due to health and safety
The bursar of a school, will not allow a Cricket Club to use their own mechanical roller on the school's grass wicket on the grounds of "Health and Safety". The Cricket Club hire the grass cricket wicket from the school. The club offered to do the rolling out of school hours.
The school's approach to this is rather unsporting. Given that the cricketers have offered to undertake the rolling activity out of hours when there are no children on the premises the risks are minimal. Grass rollers are used on cricket pitches up and down the country without incident. This is an over the top reaction and the school should rethink its stance and at least state the real reasons for its position.
