Case 165 - Enquirer was stopped from taking a group photo at a museum using a tripod on health and safety grounds.
A member of staff at a Museum stopped the enquirer from using a camera tripod. He was told tripods were not allowed as they are a health and safety problem. He had wanted to take a group photo of himself and 19 other members of his party at the museum.
Tripods themselves are not a health and safety risk, but can be a tripping hazard particularly at busy times. The museum does need to manage the risks of its visitors tripping or falling and injuring themselves, so if the museum was busy at the time this was a sensible decision however the policy that they reserve the right to stop them being used when the museum is busy could have been made clearer.
