Case 147 - Children under 16 years not allowed in exhibition centre

Issue

An industry event being held at a large exhibition centre has announced that children under the age of 16 are not allowed to attend for health and safety reasons.

Panel decision

The organisers have stated that the event will include some displays with moving machinery and hazardous chemicals. In these circumstances the decision to exclude children from the exhibition area does not seem unreasonable. The original explanation provided could have been better but we understand that the organisers have now addressed this.
