Case 144 - A Chinese restaurant refuses to give customers finger bowls because of health and safety

Issue

A Chinese restaurant refused to provide a customer with a finger bowl giving health and safety as the reason.

Panel decision

This is another example of health and safety being used blatantly as an excuse for poor customer service. There is no health and safety regulation which could possibly be interpreted as a reason for banning finger bowls.
