Case 135 - Children's soft play premises does not serve baby food due to safety risks

A children's soft play premises does not offer baby food on their menu in the café area because glass jars would constitute a health and safety risk.

Panel decision

Whilst it would make sense to have a rule banning glass jars being taken into the soft play area there is no health and safety reason which the panel can identify which would prevent the sale of baby food in glass jars in the café itself - many other similar premises do offer baby food in glass jars as part of the service to their customers. Management at this café should give the real reason for their decision rather than hiding behind health and safety.
