Case 107 - Travel shop not allowed to give out their telephone numbers in case of emergency

The enquirer tried to find a telephone number of his local public travelshop to get some travel information. Eventually he had to call the head office, who told him that due to health and safety they were not allowed to give out their shop telephone numbers in case someone called them during an emergency.

Panel decision

The panel can conceive of no health and safety issues at all associated with this case. It appears to be a blatant case of health and safety being used as an excuse for poor customer service. The travel company should be challenged to give the true reason for not giving out branch phone numbers.
