F10 Manual input form frequently asked questions

Q: What is the minimum information I should be entering on the F10 form before sending it to HSE?

HSE needs all the fields that are mandatory i.e. those that have an asterisk * next to the field label to be completed before the form can be successfully processed. See below for a list of mandatory fields

Q: How and where should I send the completed form?

It is best to send the completed form by post to the F10 Scanning Centre, c/o Central Despatch, Health and Safety Executive, Redgrave Court, Merton Road, Bootle, Merseyside, L20 7HS or you can alternatively send the completed form to the HSE Office covering the site where the construction work is to take place. Please note that it makes no difference to the processing of the form whether it is sent to Bootle or any HSE Office as the F10 system that holds all the notifications HSE receives can be accessed from any HSE Office.

It is preferable if you do not send your notifications to HSE by fax because this usually causes problems with processing your notification. The bar code that is used to scan the notification into our central system can become distorted and the scanning process fails.

Q: How can I be sure my notification is processed?

HSE will process all notifications within 10 days of receipt. You may be contacted if we encounter problems processing your notification. Please try to avoid the following problem areas to ensure we can successfully process your form quickly:

Q: Why does HSE provide an F10 form for manual completion?

To allow those notifiers who do not have online facilities to manually complete the F10 notification to complete and send it by post to HSE.

Q: Can I photocopy the form?

If you photocopy the form you need to ensure that the whole form is copied and the black guide marks in the corners of the page are visible, the barcode is still fully visible and not cut off or distorted in any way. If the toner is light this may affect the ability for HSE to process your notification.

Q: How do I choose the correct Project type to fully reflect the work being undertaken?

Please select only one checkbox from the project types available and choose the most significant amount of work being undertaken e.g. if you are doing demolition work and then new build choose the work that will take up more of the construction project. You can then use the Description of Project field to add additional information e.g. if you have selected New Build – Commercial Premises – Shop in Project type you can add some words to explain that there will be demolition work carried out prior to the building work starting.
