Speak Up, Stay Safe - British Safety Council campaign

Awesome” in the words of one 14 year old; “Cool” said another. Not something you hear every day in the world of health and safety, but a free new app and online game from the British Safety Council’s Speak Up, Stay Safe campaign has found favour with 20 school pupils.  Importantly they also learnt about dangers – all of them were able to identify many new work-related risks as a result of playing the game.

‘The Missing: A Dangerous Truth’ is a project of the Inspired by London 2012 programme and is launching today as an online game and an app, available on Apple and Android devices. Cause-related agency Digital Giving created this innovative and engaging game in the style of the popular gothic novel, where a teenage brother and sister detective team attempt to overcome Zombie-like evil characters and discover a ‘dangerous truth’.

With all this Olympic fervour, perhaps it’s time to sit back and enjoy a colourful, manga-esque experience that is also a brain-teaser. The game also cleverly links users to information on the Speak Up, Stay Safe website to help them speak up and put confident communication at the heart of health and wellbeing at work.

Alex Botha, British Safety Council CEO said; “This is breaking new ground for British Safety Council and for our sector. We know it’s difficult to reach young people, but it’s their attitude to risk and being able to speak up that will make the difference in the future. I was delighted by the response of pupils as our Speak Up, Stay Safe campaign is all about starting young. The game is a great opportunity to get important information on the website into their hands. It really could be a game that saves lives.”

Grant Morgan, co-founder of Digital Giving Ltd, said, “The challenge with the brief was to create a compelling, interactive experience that young people would enjoy and share with their friends. We are confident that The Missing – A Dangerous Truth delivers on all levels and will revolutionise health and safety education.”
