Poor paving: Safer

The key Improvement

While the site had dedicated parking and a one-way system in place, poor maintenance and weak segregation was the root cause of the accident. A paved pedestrian only area have been created to improve vehicle, pedestrian segregation. Delivery vehicles now have to use a different route into the site.

Other improvements

All areas have been resurfaced, and improved drainage added. Barriers have been added to protect pedestrians from lift trucks working in the loading bay areas, along with a clearly marked crossing area.

Benefits

While there remains a necessity for pedestrians to be in the service area there is a much improved level of segregation, and this reduces the risk of future accidents. Defining the parking and loading areas provides more efficient use of the space available and prevents damage to vehicles by fork lift trucks.
