Vehicles at work

After the accident the company looked at the layout of their site. Demolishing an unused building allowed the installation of a one-way system, meaning trucks no longer reverse where pedestrians are crossing.
Barriers force workers to cross the loading bay on the crossing provided. This is far enough away from the loading bay to be reasonably safe. The crossing is well lit, so truck drivers leaving the site can clearly see the pedestrians.
It is unavoidable that workers have to cross the loading bay; however controlling the movements of the trucks and pedestrians can lessen the risks. A more costly option may have been to install a pedestrian bridge between the two buildings.
