Latest accident information – 2008-09 (provisional)

The major accident rate for woodworking is more than 17% above the manufacturing industry average. Like most industries, handling and slips and trips account for most injuries. However, woodworking has a very high number of accidents caused by contact with moving machinery. HSE is currently producing more detailed information on the types of machines involved and the causes of these accidents, such as unsafe work practices and lack of training, and this should be available later in the year.
