Health and Safety Executive

Registering a new business

From 6 April 2009, employers will no longer have to register the factories, offices and shops in which their employees work with the relevant health and safety authority.

Relevant forms:

If you work with hazardous substances, such as asbestos or explosives, or in a hazardous industry, such as construction or diving, you may also need to apply for a licence; or notify HSE or your local authority.

If in doubt, ring your local authority’s environmental health department for advice.
