Events to help local authorities reduce injuries in waste and recycling

The number of people killed in the waste and recycling sector is more than nine times the national average. It is vitally important that local authorities understand their responsibilities as a client when procuring and managing contracts and that they have the right information to do this effectively.

New online guidance will be launched at a series of regional events for local authorities starting on 19th January 2010 (see full event listing below). The events will provide an opportunity to reflect on these issues with colleagues from other local authorities and to engage with both contractor representatives and HSE.

While job titles may differ from one local authority to another, the events are aimed at Heads of Environmental Services, Heads of Procurement, Heads of Corporate Health and Safety and elected members with greatest responsibility for waste and recycling services. Invitations will be sent out to individuals in these roles during December, so please put your regional event in your diary now.

If you have not received an invitation and feel that it would be beneficial for you to attend one of these events, visit http://www.hse-events.co.uk/form.htm
