Engaging Arboricultural Contractors Safety and Health Awareness Day

The next in this series of free SHADs aimed at clients who employ arboricultural contractors, is being held on Tuesday 20 November 2012 at The Kent Event Centre. Kent Showground, Detling, Maidstone, Kent ME14 3JF

Arboriculture is high-risk work where despite the comparatively small number of people employed in the industry, the fatal and non-fatal injury rates are far too high. It is for this reason that HSE, in partnership with key industry stakeholders, has developed a workshop for those involved in the procurement, management and monitoring of contractors of arboricultural services.

The programme (one full day), will comprise presentations and practical demonstrations covering a broad range of topics, including Health and Safety Regulations, training and certification and safe use of chainsaws during tree work.

The workshop offers an excellent opportunity to get practical advice from expert, industry based instructors; and will provide you with the key questions to ask to determine whether your contractors comply with current legal requirements.

Since October 2003 HSE, in conjunction with the Arboricultural Association, has run a series of safety and health awareness days (SHADs) for organisations who appoint and engage arboricultural contractors

These awareness days highlight the crucial role that clients have in driving up health and safety standards in arboriculture. They provide an update on new legislation, guidance and technical issues and advice to help ensure clients employ competent contractors. They are aimed at a wide variety of organisations.
