Styleguide
Metadata is descriptive information which is used to record the physical characteristics of an object or analyse its contents. It can also be regarded as cataloguing data.
Metadata is most commonly used to describe a web page and may include: a title, author(s), a description, some keywords and a review date. Metadata about a car might include: the make, the colour and the size of the engine.
HSE has adopted the E-Government Metadata System (e-GMS) to describe its web pages.
All content files need metadata, such as: webpages, PDF documents, Flash files, Microsoft Office files including Word, PowerPoint or Excel.
