The International Stress Management Association (ISMA) is holding its 9th annual conference, which focuses on preventing work-related stress and other key issues relating to stress management. The conference has attracted some of the UK’s leading experts and top class speakers from the field of stress and will take place at The Institute of Child Health in London on 27th June 2008.
Following the ‘Healthy Workplace Solutions’ series of workshops, HSE promised further support to those organisations who attended and were implementing the Management Standards or equivalent process.
A major tier of this support is a series of Masterclasses to provide targeted advice on aspects of the Management Standards where organisations have indicated they need further help. Masterclasses will be held at a number of regional locations and last for one day. The actual number of Masterclasses held will be subject to demand.
The day will provide an opportunity to explore solutions to problems you may have encountered with experts in the field along with others engaged in the Management Standards process. Example agenda [59kb]
.
The Masterclasses are available only to organisations that have attended the previous workshops or who participated in the first phase of the Management Standards Implementation project (SIP 1). If your organisation has attended a workshop and have not yet received an invitaion to attend a Masterclass or would like further information, for England and Scotland please contact charlotte.bramham-tate@hse.gsi.gov.uk or for Wales please contact andrew.galvin@hse.gsi.gov.uk.
Registration cost include a complimentary copy of the revised stress guidance to be published Autumn 2007.
Since the Healthy workplace solutions workshop series ended we have continued to receive e-mails asking if HSE will be hosting more.
HSE is targeting much of its work in 2007, for example its Masterclasses, on the five sectors where the incidence and prevalence of work-related stress is greatest - health, education, central Govt, local govt, and financial services.
HSE is currently considering what further help to offer employers in the priority sectors in 2008, for example some more Healthy Workplace Solutions workshops for those unable to attend the initial series in 2007-08, some further Master Classes, or something else entirely. We would very much welcome your views on what HSE should provide. This will help us as we develop our plans for the coming year. Please email your suggestions to the appropriate email account listed below. We look forward to hearing from you.
If you are considering external help to assist introducing management standards in your organisation, HSE have developed a guide to selecting specialist support.
Joint CIPD/Health and Safety Executive research shows that a manager’s behaviour can have a major impact on employees’ stress levels affecting the well-being of employees and organisational performance. And, with over 5 million employees in the UK reporting that they feel extremely stressed at work, this is an increasing problem for all organisations. Copies of the full research report and summaries for HR managers and line managers can be downloaded below.
The Work Foundation and HSE have worked closely to produce a suite of guidance products designed to help public sector organisations improve their management of sickness absence. The guides are designed to promote:
