HandS-On Statistics Data Tool

Health and Safety Online: HandS-On Statistics Data Tool

Welcome to Health and Safety Online or HandS-On

HandS-On is a free-to-use service that allows visitors to view, manipulate, create and export tables from HSE's injury and ill health data using a powerful analysis tool. It gives you direct access to the data.

Try the HandS-On Statistics Data Tool

Data is available from two sources:

  • RIDDOR - Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 - Workplace injury data from 2001/02.
  • LFS - Labour Force Survey - Workplace injury and ill health data from 2001/02.

HSE also publish data from other sources, but only RIDDOR and the LFS are comprehensive enough to allow detailed interrogation in HandS-On. Where possible HSE uses multiple sources rather than relying on a single source when forming conclusions from any analyses.

Help using HandS-On

Need help with generating and understanding tables? HandS-On is a recent addition to the Statistics site. Additional help is planned, for example, adding video tutorials, top tips, data classification catalogues etc. The additional help is dependant on the timing and evidence from user feedback that is expected towards the end of 2011.

Note of caution - HSE will not comment on your statistical analyses and interpretation. The value of any outputs will be crucially dependent on whether sensible questions are being asked of the data.
