HandS-On is a free-to-use service that allows visitors to view, manipulate, create and export tables from HSE's injury and ill health data using a powerful analysis tool. It gives you direct access to the data.
Data is available from two sources:
HSE also publish data from other sources, but only RIDDOR and the LFS are comprehensive enough to allow detailed interrogation in HandS-On. Where possible HSE uses multiple sources rather than relying on a single source when forming conclusions from any analyses.
From September 2011 the RIDDOR notification system used by employers changed, with reporting now being predominantly online and with less detailed information collected compared to the previous reporting arrangements. As a result, RIDDOR data for 2011/12 is not provided through HandS-On, as some of the detailed data is not available, or sufficiently consistent with that for previous years. RIDDOR data for earlier years, 2001/02 to 2010/11, is still accessible.
The inclusion of data in HandS-On for 2012/13 and beyond is under review.
Keep in touch with updates to HandS-On and for the latest news on statistical releases from the HSE through our Statistics e-Bulletin service.
HSE will not comment on your statistical analyses and interpretation. The value of any outputs will be crucially dependent on whether sensible questions are being asked of the data.
